Improving engagement between citizens, governments and organisations on public issues is our passion. CiviQ products are based on recent ground-breaking innovations in deliberative democratic theory.

 

Some of the team 

Vanessa Liston is Co-founder and CEO of CiviQ. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Trinity College Dublin where she held a Government of Ireland scholarship. Vanessa also has a background in Web technologies and a management consulting career in the IT industry. Prior to this, Vanessa worked in international development. Vanessa’s interests are in the use of Q-methodology to advance deliberative democracy and citizen/government engagement using collaborative technologies.

Mark O’Toole is Co-founder and CTO of CiviQ. Mark holds an MBA and an MSc (Internet Systems) from Dublin City University and an MA from University College Dublin. Since 2002 Mark has been an Information Systems Project Manager for Kilkenny County Council. His research interests include deliberative democracy, Web 2.0, collaboration, Knowledge Management, Content Management, Data Visualisation, Open Source software and Business Intelligence. Since 2008 Mark has been an advocate within government circles for the use of social and collaborative technologies to improve the quality of both government services and of government interactions with citizens.

Philip Kearney is a researcher at CiviQ, focused on the environment and energy sector with a special interest in climate. Phil holds a primary degree in social science and masters degrees in psychotherapy and epidemiology. He chaired the Aarhus Convention’s Task Force on Public Participation in Decision-making from 2010-2014 appointed to this role by the Irish Minister for the Environment. The principal product of the Task Force’s recent work is the Maastricht Recommendations on Public Participation.  Phil was a founding member of the Green Party in Ireland and is a board member of Nuclear Transparency Watch (NTW),  a Brussels-based NGO promoting transparency and participation in the nuclear sector.  He was team lead for CiviQ in an European Commission-funded NTW project on public participation in radioactive waste management – the BEPPER project.’
